Compounding Services

We care the way you care about your clients, your patients, and your practice.

Veterinary Compounding Services

At Compounding 4 Vet, we operate a dedicated veterinary compounding laboratory staffed by fully trained pharmacists and laboratory technicians. We work closely with veterinary professionals across Australia to prepare individualised medications that meet the specific needs of each patient.

Compounding allows veterinarians to overcome common prescribing challenges, including:

  • Limited availability of approved veterinary medicines for many species and conditions
  • Discontinuation of commercially available medications
  • Commercially available strengths or ingredients that are unsuitable for a particular patient
  • Difficulty administering medications in their commercial form, particularly for dogs, cats, exotic species, and small animals

Dosage Forms

From our laboratory, we can prepare medications in a wide range of dosage forms tailored to the species, condition, and owner's ability to administer treatment:

Oral Formulations

  • Flavoured liquids and suspensions
  • Capsules
  • Flavoured tablets
  • Oral pastes
  • Oral powder packs
  • Chewable medicated treats

Topical & Other Formulations

  • Transdermal preparations
  • Topical creams, ointments and lotions
  • Otic preparations
  • Sugar-free formulations
  • Dye-free formulations

If you require a dosage form not listed above, please contact our pharmacists to discuss your patient's needs. We are experienced in developing custom formulations for a wide variety of veterinary applications.

Flavouring Options

Palatability is one of the most important factors in successful medication administration. A medication that an animal willingly accepts reduces stress for both the patient and the owner, and significantly improves treatment compliance. Working closely with pet owners and veterinarians, we can custom-flavour a medication to suit the tastes and preferences of any kind of animal.

All of our flavourings are pharmaceutical grade and vegan compliant. Because they contain no animal proteins, they are allergy friendly and suitable for patients with dietary sensitivities or known protein allergies.

Savoury & Meat-Style Flavours

  • Beef
  • Chicken
  • Liver
  • Triple Fish
  • Tuna
  • Cheese
  • Peanut Butter

Fruit & Sweet Flavours

  • Apple
  • Banana
  • Cherries
  • Honey
  • Marshmallow
  • Molasses
  • Peppermint
  • PiƱa Colada
  • Strawberry
  • Tutti Frutti
  • Vanilla Butternut

Savoury flavours are typically preferred by dogs and cats, while fruit and sweet flavours are often better suited to horses, herbivorous species, birds, and small mammals. Our pharmacists can recommend the most appropriate flavour for your patient based on species, dosage form, and the active ingredient being compounded, as some medications have strong inherent tastes that pair better with particular flavours. If you require a flavour not listed above, please contact our team to discuss your needs.
